Addagrip approved contractor, True Grip Ltd has just installed 156sqm of Terrabase Rustic Resin Bound porous surfacing to the pathways at this Signature Homes care home in Surrey to provide a safe surfacing option for the residents.
Moorlands Lodge, located on a high point of the Surrey North Downs, is a purpose built care home offering respite or convalescence, a comfortable home and some assistance with everyday tasks, specialised dementia or end-of-life care.
The care home has an extensive range of facilities which include landscaped gardens for the enjoyment of residents and their families. The Wonder Walk which runs from the front to the back of the building gives access to the grounds and was originally constructed using a cellular confinement system and loose gravel to provide a natural woodland pathway. However, the pathway has started to deteriorate resulting in some of the walkway becoming difficult for access by less able residents and wheelchair users and had to be closed for safety reasons.
Signature Care Homes approached Addagrip to help with the problem of the usability of the pathways to see if there was an alternative option to the existing cellular system which would give a natural looking, low maintenance surfacing without the need for an invasive asphalt or concrete base. Terrabase Rustic was presented as the perfect solution.
With a 6-10mm aggregate, this patented Resin Bound porous system can be installed with minimum digging onto a compacted MOT Type 3 base and provides a low maintenance, hard wearing, seamless finish which is comfortable underfoot and suitable for wheelchair access. Addagrip approved contractor, True Grip Ltd, removed the existing plastic cell system and loose gravel and replaced it with 150sqm of Terrabase Rustic Resin Bound surfacing in a Rustic Beach blend.
The rustic look achieved with the larger aggregate size ensures that the new pathway blends into the natural setting and, being porous, there is no surface water allowing access all year round. The Resin Bound system ensures there is no migration of stones, providing a low maintenance surfacing option.
