SpeedDeck exposes the myth that more is better with Dynamic Insulation

Thursday, 15 September 2011

SpeedDeck Building Systems, in conjunction with Energyflo Construction Technologies, brings you the most revolutionary advance in thermal insulation technology in recent years.

SpeedDeck metal roof systems now have the capability of achieving class leading 0.05W/m²K U values by applying patented dynamic insulation technology. Such U values are unobtainable using standard insulation.

As we all know, to comply with the ever increasing demands of the Building Regulations, insulation has continued to increase in thickness. To achieve a performance similar to Dynamic Insulation, traditional insulation would need to be approximately 2 metres thick!

Some of the benefits of SpeedDeck Dynamic Insulation are:
- Tuneable U value down to 0.05W/m2K
- Construction depth of 210mm
- Assist with SBEM compliance
- Up to 80% reduction in CO2 and heat loss
- More flexibility in the overall building design.

Dynamic Insulation acts as a heat exchanger/heat recovery and ventilation source. The heat that flows out of the building and is normally lost into the environment is brought back in the form of pre‐heated or pre‐cooled ventilation air. As a result the energy required for space heating and cooling is significantly reduced.

SpeedDeck Dynamic Insulation roof systems link to the mechanical air handling HVAC system to capture and circulate the air. A slight pressure difference draws outdoor air through the roof, the air moves through the insulation and picks up conduction heat that would otherwise be lost (or gained). The ventilation air passes to the air handling system for conditioning and distribution into the indoor space. Optimum heat recovery occurs at between 0.6 and 3.0 room air changes per hour.

Dynamic Insulation operates in 2 modes:

1. Dynamic Mode: U=0.05W/m²K Fresh ventilation air is drawn through the dynamic insulation cells, capturing heat energy otherwise lost from the building.

2. Passive Mode: U=0.21W/m²K No air pressure within the dynamic insulation cells providing a static U value.

Dynamic Insulation originated at Aberdeen University in 2004 and after years of development and testing has culminated in Energyflo Construction Technologies Ltd, an Edinburgh based innovative technologies company offering the Dynamic Breathing Building (DBB) technology.

The dynamic U value performance of dynamic insulation has been independently tested and verified by the National Physical Laboratory(NLP) and is recognised by Integrated Environmental Solutions Limited IES Building performance modelling software.
