Mtech announces findings of Modern Methods of Construction for Affordable Housing

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Mtech Consult, a UK leading specialist consultancy in offsite manufacturing, has announced the findings of a report researching the growing trends of modern methods of construction, drawing on examples across 20 affordable housing projects.

The research document outlines the application of innovative building technologies within housing construction, and reports the findings of 20 housing associations’ use of offsite and modern methods of construction. Focusing on the decision-making process during which offsite techniques are specified, the report also highlights the end performance on which the benefits of using modern methods of construction are measured.

The report further outlines the drivers and benefits of offsite and modern methods of construction, as the demand for improved environmental performance increases and pressure to use alternative construction methods grow. The study shows that, taken as a whole, the adoption of offsite techniques in the HA industry has increased significantly over recent years, in part due to its ability to quickly adapt to meet the current needs and challenges of the market.

Inger Leach, at Innovation Chain North West, comments: “It is highly important that the housing industry is educated on the benefits of offsite construction. The research carried out by Mtech Consult is an excellent source to increase our understanding of the challenges facing the market, and has some relevant examples of offsite construction at work.”

The research is aimed at supporting the industry’s understanding of the concept and use of modern methods of construction, and provides strategies for appropriate use of offsite techniques alongside a collection of in depth case studies showing offsite technologies in situ.
