What would you do if you had a burst pipe? Domestic water leaks cost UK homeowners £1.8 billion and it affects…
An average water leak now costs £6700* - protect yourself with the new Surestop Stopcock
Surestop Ltd, manufacturers of the Surestop Water Switch (see video for more information http://www.youtube.com/user/SurestopUK ) will be exhibiting at forthcoming ecoSHOWCASE events to promote the latest addition to their range, the Surestop Stopcock. The new Surestop stopcock will be available from 1st April 2011 and has been approved for use by WRAS for use as a stopcock. The new products build upon the heritage and success of the remote water switches and offer an easy to use, easy to install, stopcock which unlike a brass stopcock, won’t seize up.
They are initially launched with push-fit fittings and will be available for 15mm and 22mm pipework. With retail prices starting from around £15, they offer a low cost way of reducing the increasing incidence and cost of water leaks in domestic properties.
According to figures provided by the Association of Insurance Brokers (AIB) the cost of dealing with burst pipes and water leaks in the UK has doubled from £46 million in 2006 to £93 million in 2008. Escape of water now costs insurance companies more than claims for burglary. The cost of dealing with an average claim now costs £6700* (http://www.nebusiness.co.uk/business-news/latest-business-news/2011/01/21/insurer-rsa-counting-the-cost-of-uk-s-big-freeze-51140-28025951/).
Many homeowners may well be unaware that many home insurers now place additional an additional excess on escape of water and this is often more than £250.
Given the above you may be amazed to know that many of us are powerless to react in the event of a water leak. Research has shown that 30% of the population do not know where their stopcock is located and of those of us that do know where it is, very few of check it regularly to see if it’s working. Brass stopcocks can seize up and they are particularly difficult for the elderly to access and use.
The Surestop can typically be fitted by a plumber in less than an hour and is operated by water pressure so it needs no batteries or electricity. It is specified extensively by over 250 local authorities and housing associations and over 350,000 have been sold since its launch in 2001.
In the words of Noel O’Donnell Surestop Ltd’s, Sales and Marketing Director, the Surestop product range solves a real problem for homeowners, landlords and house builders: “Given that the average cost of a water leak is now £6700, the Surestop range of products with prices starting at £15, offers an inexpensive, easy to use way for homeowners to turn off their mains water in the event of a water leak as well as every time they leave home.”
Surestop Water Switches are available from all of the UK’s leading plumbing merchants. For more information and details of stockists, please visit www.surestop.co.uk
