Strathclyde Fire & Rescue make extensive use of ArchiCAD BIM
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue is one of the largest services of its kind in Europe and serves a population of over 2.2 million people across a 13,625 square kilometre area.
Determined to streamline their procedures and after extensive trials of a number of software applications, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue implemented ArchiCAD Building Information Modelling (BIM) solution. Today, some five thousand models of public buildings, international airports, railway stations, sport stadia, ferry ports and ferries are available on their Vehicle Mounted Data System (VMDS).
VMDS is an in-vehicle mobile information system that improves the occupational safety of firefighters and the operational efficiency of fire and rescue services. It provides front line fire crews with direct access to critical location and risk information from the incident ground.
Their use of ArchiCAD was realised as not just useful, but a necessity in helping the services commitment to make the communities within its area safer places to live, work and visit.
