Kebony® offers a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood. A proprietary wood modification technology called 'Kebonization' permanently transforms sustainable wood specifies…
Kebony is named as Global Cleantech 100 innovator for its sustainable wood product
Kebony, the Norway-based producer of the award-winning sustainable substitute to tropical hardwood, has recently been named as one of the world’s most promising clean technology companies in the Global Cleantech 100.
Kebony continues to prove itself as an innovative company, offering a pioneering product, widely lauded the ‘new wood’. This recent win follows Kebony’s selection from over 3,000 companies judged on their potential to achieve high growth and impact internationally, offering a solution to some of the world’s most pressing environmental problems. Further still, Kebony was chosen as one of the few companies in the manufacturing industry; a company that has demonstrated its modified wood product as a true alternative to the unsustainable use of tropical timber and environmentally damaging toxic treated woods used in the built environment, whether its cladding, decking, windows, furniture or any other indoor or outdoor product.
The revolutionary environmentally friendly process of Kebonization lies at the heart of this accolade with the report specifically emphasising how the modified wood “…becomes more weather resistant and more likely to last longer” as a result of this ground-breaking process. Essentially, Kebonization permanently transforms sustainable wood species into that with comparable, and often superior, attributes to tropical hardwood, making it harder, more durable and more stable using liquids from biowaste material.
“It is a tremendous achievement for Kebony to be recognised as one of the world’s top 100 Cleantech companies. This is a great reflection on the progress the company is making in achieving its global ambitions. We have secured distributors in a number of key markets and have provided product to hundreds of projects in the marine, decking and building industries. We are also proud to say that our technology provides an eco-solution to the major environmental challenge of rain forest deforestation,” says Christian Jebsen, CEO of Kebony.
‘We are proud to be a company founded on propositions that set out to protect the environment. Acknowledgement from the clean tech industry on our commitment to this, and the potential market for our award winning product is fantastic," says Jan Terje Nielsen, Director of Marketing at Kebony.
This endorsement is the latest in a string of awards that recognise Kebony’s exceptional environmental credentials. As a testament to Kebony’s insight, excellence and quality, Kebony has been awarded the Nordic region’s eco-label, the Swan, the Glass Bear for sustainable consumption and production and the Blue Ocean Award from the Norwegian boat press. Most recently, the success of the UK PR launch campaign secured the Timber Trade Journal 2010 ‘Excellence in Marketing Award’ with Kebony also being shortlisted for the ‘Achievement in Sustainability’ and ‘Market Development’ categories.
Kebony’s growing influence has been further strengthened by a number of high-profile industry accreditations which reflect its product’s unrivalled performance. Kebony is FSC-certified and is also embraced by leading preservation organisations such as The Rain Forest Coalition and the WWF. On the back of Kebony’s revolutionary concept they were also asked to present at the highly-acclaimed CC8 Climate Conference and invited to display their innovative product at the UN-Climate Conference in Copenhagen.
