Eurisol becomes MIMA, the Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers Association
Eurisol, the trade body formed in 1962 to provide an authoritative source of independent information and advice on stone and glass mineral wool, has changed its name to MIMA - the Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers Association. The move is part of a strategy to raise the profile of mineral wool, at a time when it is becoming increasingly important for specifiers, developers and contractors to fully understand how different insulation materials can best meet the demands presented by many applications and performance requirements.
Regulatory changes and the introduction of initiatives such as the Code for Sustainable Homes and CERT have all contributed to an unprecedented focus on insulation and its worth. MIMA therefore plays a valuable role in highlighting the abilities of mineral wool insulation to meet the increasing thermal, fire, acoustic and environmental performance requirements.
“The association has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for many years promoting the benefits of insulation and the contribution it makes to a building’s construction and the comfort of its occupants,” said Hans Schreuder Chairman of the association.
“It is hoped that by investing in clearer branding and promotional activity, MIMA will raise awareness of the attributes and benefits of mineral wool and the help it has available to those needing to specify or install insulation.
“Mineral wool in particular offers unparalleled ‘4-benefits-in-one’ products, able to meet ever more testing demands, both during use and when its whole-life impact on the environment in assessed. As the association continues to develop mineral wool solutions for the challenges of a sustainable built environment, a change of name seemed appropriate to facilitate increased awareness of future activities.”
The association has close relationships with central government, local authorities and other industry bodies involved in the effective use of insulation materials and energy saving strategies, and is well respected through its contribution to a wide range of consultation exercises - including those involving Building Regulations, labelling and energy efficiency grants and schemes. Most recently it was instrumental in proving the effects of thermal bypass in party wall cavities and the subsequent changes to Part L.
