IKO provides single ply green roof protection on care home

SpectraROOF Single Ply Engineering, a division of IKO PLC, has provided a waterproofing system on a newly built residential care home.

Riverview Care Home is a development in a prominent area of Witham, Essex. Main Contractor, SDC Builders in Bedford, requested a green roof as the top finishing layer on the roofs pitched at 17.5 degrees, and wanted a waterproofing membrane system with a long life expectancy which was not a PVC. Roofing Contractor, Cambridge Asphalte Group, recommended SpectraROOFs’ mechanically fixed Spectraplan SM120 dark grey, a polyester reinforced TPE waterproofing system with a dark grey standing seam to complete the specification. The 2000m² project completed also has an irrigation system to water the green roof finish.

Commenting on the project, Shaun Lotay, Sales & Marketing Manager at Cambridge Asphalte Group said: “The client required a lightweight green roof solution and SpectraROOF presented a specification which would meet all the design criteria and would provide an aesthetically pleasing roof for many years to come.”

Spectraplan TPE membranes are environmentally friendly using no plasticisers or halogens in their manufacture, releasing none either in the case of fire and being fully recyclable at the end of their useful life. This is usually a very important specification issue when considering public establishments. Production of SpectraROOF single ply membranes commenced at the company’s Clay Cross site in September 2009.
