Grant Westfield surpasses government targets on waste re-cycling
Grant Westfield is now re-cycling between 90-95% of waste instead of sending it to landfill sites. By working in conjunction with local waste management firm, M. McKenzie (Pentland), surplus face laminate and plywood used in mutliPANEL, and MDF, compact grade laminate, chipboard - among other materials - used in cubicles, laboratories, service concealment systems and many other products, are now being treated and used to fuel biomass boilers. Similarly wood waste is cleaned and re-processed into chipboard for flooring and worktops.
Paul McKenzie, Production Director at Grant Westfield, has been working hard to reduce waste sent to landfill over the last 5 years, and is absolutely delighted with the latest developments: “We all play our part in helping the environment, and as a business we have a serious responsibility to minimise waste. The re-cycling of waste material has significantly improved our overall environmental footprint, and comes in addition to a number of measures we already have in place including packaging and plastic re-cycling and reducing energy emissions.”
The government has set a target that by 2015, the amount of waste sent to landfills should be 35% of that sent in 1995. Grant Westfield is now sending less than 10% of previous volumes.
