DORMA supplies over 1000m of movable walls at new Floral Hall complex

DORMA has installed eleven of its revolutionary MOVEO movable wall systems at the new Floral Hall complex in Southport. The 1,000m order is the largest value UK movable walls project to date for DORMA, and serves as a further example of the reputation that the innovative new product is establishing for itself.

Ten of the units have been installed in the Waterfront Suite of the Southport Theatre & Floral Hall Conference Centre with the remaining installation in the Ramada Plaza Southport hotel. Both venues have been constructed by main contractor Allenbuild.

David Chapman, a partner at architect NJSR is delighted with the all round performance of the MOVEO. He comments: “it is an extremely impressive lightweight movable wall system, and at the same time is proving extremely cost effective against manual systems. The support we got from the DORMA sales operation and design team was first rate and developed into an excellent working relationship”.

Care was also taken on the project to incorporate a distinct contrasted colour scheme on the MOVEO walls that would be sympathetic to DDA requirements and enable people with site disabilities to operate the system easily and safely.

The DORMA MOVEO system is extremely light, weighing around half that of most conventional systems due to its innovative construction and design As a result, the MOVEO panels can be moved by anyone, quickly, accurately and effortlessly to their required location.

Once in place the ComforTronic control system, which is provided as a standard feature, comes into play eliminating any need for the time and effort involved with manual crank mechanisms. With the ComforTronic control, panel seals are automatically extended when two elements come into contact, eliminating any possibility of operator error, guaranteeing that the wall is always securely sealed and ensuring outstanding sound attenuation levels of up to 55 dB.

A wide range of surface finishes is available, classified into three different ‘Collections’. The Design Collection comprises high-quality, genuine wood veneers, striking metal decors and RAL-painted surfaces. The Classic Collection contains particularly hard-wearing, scratch and impact-resistant surfaces in a variety of colours, as wood reproduction, or as textured decor finishes. Further alternatives are available in the Functional Collection, ranging from steel sheet and write-on or magnetic finishes, to surfaces that perform as projector screens. When it comes to parking the MOVEO panels, there are six stacking alternatives and each takes up a relatively small area – which benefits the general aesthetics of the room.

DORMA have recently released the MOVEO Glass – a movable wall sharing the benefits of the original MOVEO but now constructed with full glass panels with the option of built-in sun blinds. MOVEO Glass panels can be combined with non-glass finishes to meet specific requirements. Equally easy to operate, the MOVEO® Glass ensures sound attenuation levels of up to 50dB.
