Jabfloor insulation goes back to college

Tuesday, 23 September 2008

Jabfloor insulation from Vencel Resil was chosen to provide the required thermal performance for two new buildings at Suffolk College in Ipswich. Main contractor MAN Construction specified the expanded polystyrene insulation from Jablite as it met their needs for being easy to install, durable and cost-effective.

Jabfloor Type 100 was chosen at 25mm thick to suit the engineer's exact specifications for thermal performance. This was a large project with one building 4,500m2 in size and the other was 2,500m2.

With building regulations requirements becoming ever tighter, contractors need to be able to meet the ever more stringent U-values through high performance insulation. Due to its closed cell structure, consisting of 98% air, EPS has a very low thermal conductivity, which is ideal for improving the energy performance of a building.

Colin Dunkley, Construction Sales Manager for Vencel Resil, explains: "Many contractors choose our insulation as it is so easy to work with as well as being reliable for the long term. Our products are also recognised for their excellent insulative properties, giving contractors and developers the confidence that thermal performance is guaranteed. Our insulation is helping contractors to achieve lower U-values as part of providing a more energy efficient building design."

Jabfloor is available in a variety of thicknesses to suit individual building requirements. It is so versatile, it can be used below a sand or cement screed, above a concrete slab, precast suspended concrete floor or beam and block floor system.

With the increasing pressure to create buildings that meet thermal performance and sustainability requirements, Jabfloor is a popular choice with developers and contractors looking for simple and effective ways to meet Building Regulations.

Jabfloor is part of the Jablite family, which is one of the leading brands of expanded polystyrene insulation products (EPS) used in the construction industry. The Jablite range of insulation products requires no specialist skills or equipment for installation and can be cut to fit over any pipework, where necessary.

The fact that EPS contains air and not a gaseous compound means that its insulative performance will not deteriorate over time. Expanded polystyrene is also non-toxic and biologically inert and will remain stable for the lifetime of the building. As part of meeting sustainability requirements, EPS is one of the most sustainable types of insulation, with zero global warming potential and zero ozone depletion potential.
